Receding gums are an oral problem that can have very harmful consequences, not only aesthetically but, above all, from a health perspective.

In this post we tell you what they are, what causes them and what is the best solution to stop the progress of the gums in recession.

What are Receding Gums?

Receding Gums (also known as “retracted gums”) is an oral condition that leads to a progressive loss of dental support tissue and leads to expose the root of the tooth, the previous step even to a possible loss of the dental piece.

What Are The Causes of Receding Gums?

The reasons are diverse. Some do not cause them on their own, but they can cause problems that, if left untreated, result in gum retraction. We list the most common:

  • Accumulation of bacterial plaque. As we have talked on other occasions, the accumulation of plaque can cause diseases such as gingivitis (inflammation of the gum around the tooth) and periodontitis, also commonly called “pyorrhea.”
  • A tooth brushing too aggressive or the use of brushes with excessive hardness, can lead to bleeding and I gradual loss of gingiva.
  • Traumatism. Occasionally, bumps in the mouth caused by accidents, or even the practice of some sports, can also cause gum retraction.

In addition, there are also risk factors. For example, diseases that affect the immune system (such as diabetes or AIDS), age, stress, tobacco, or genetics, increase the likelihood of suffering from gum retraction.

How Do You Prevent & Treat Receding Gums?

As we always say in this blog, the best way to prevent any oral disease is to maintain correct dental hygiene habits. But there are also solutions for more advanced cases. The first thing to do, before resorting to some type of surgical treatment, is to eliminate the cause that causes the retraction. For example, if our retraction is caused by too aggressive brushing, we must correct this habit to restore gum health. But on many occasions, the above is not enough and we must undergo surgical techniques that consist of soft tissue grafting in our gums to recover them, both from the point of view of health and aesthetics. As always, when you go to your dental clinic, the specialist will make a detailed analysis of your problem, will give you guidelines to take care of your gums and, if necessary, will choose the best surgical treatment for your case.

One of the major health areas that are often overlooked is dental health. We often don’t pay attention to the symptoms when they first start appearing, which then causes them to aggravate and the disease to spread.

One of the main diseases caused in the teeth is Periodontal disease. It is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation in the gums. If this infection is left untreated, it can destroy your bone. Periodontal disease generally presents itself without pain, but at an advanced stage, it causes pain, swollen and bleeding gums.

There are many ways through which periodontal diseases are treated. A very good option to get your diseases treated is through Laser Treatment.

What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis or periodontal disease is the destruction of the tissues that support the teeth, the periodontium, whose gum is the visible part. This destruction is caused by bacteria in scale.

If nothing is done for months or even years, the teeth gradually come off without pain and eventually fall, because the bacteria destroy the fibers that anchor the tooth inside the bone.

What is Laser Dentistry?

Laser treatment, also known as Laser Periodontal Therapy is a non-invasive and conservative method for treating the periodontal gum infection. It doesn’t involve cutting, suturing or removing tissue. It uses precision and kills about 99% of bacteria that are present in the periodontal pockets.

The main idea of laser treatment is to make sure that no tissue is damaged or reduced to a lower level. It also helps in stimulating the stem cells to form new connective tissue, bone and collagen. Through the body’s healing process, the lost ligaments and bone are the tooth are then regenerated.
