Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
A dental exam and professional cleaning are done as part of your preventative dental care routine. The exam helps to check for signs of tooth decay, loose fillings, crowns, and bridge work, and even oral cancer. The cleaning is performed by a licensed hygienist who quickly works to remove hardened calculus and tartar from your teeth. As part of your dental cleaning, the hygienist checks the health of your gums for signs of both gingivitis and gum disease.
Why are Dental Exams & Cleanings needed?
Cleanings and exams are necessary because they help to detect problems before they’re allowed to get worse. Cleanings can even help in preventing certain problems from occurring in the first place, like tooth decay and gingivitis. By being proactive with your dental health, you’ll find that your smile stays healthier than if you continually forgo checkups. It’s never too late to get onto a good preventative care routine, so even if it’s been awhile since your last appointment, it’s important to come in for care.
Dr. Patel does excellent work, and cares for his patients’ overall health. I was impressed by his new office, and the way in which his staff treats patients as well.
What makes you a viable candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Every person is a good candidate for both dental exams and cleanings. Children as young as one or two years old can benefit from receiving preventative care treatment. What can be expected with Dental Exams & Cleanings?
You will first come into our office and have x-rays taken to help in diagnosing certain oral conditions. Next, the hygienist works to quickly and carefully remove hardened calculus and tartar from each surface of your teeth. The gums are checked for signs of gingivitis or gum disease, and the teeth polished and flossed. Once the cleaning is complete, our doctor will come into the room and perform an exam. The exam checks for signs of tooth decay, loose restorations, oral cancer, and other intra-oral problems. We can schedule additional work to be done on an as-needed basis.
