Extractions

What’s an Extraction?

An extraction involves complete removal of one, or more, of your teeth. Extractions can be performed on both pediatric and adult patients as needed. In some cases, an extraction is required before another procedure, or it may be necessary if the tooth in question has become a problem for your oral health. At Total Implants & Periodontics, we are able to perform any extraction needed, comfortably and safely. We offer sedation and other treatment options to make your visit with us as relaxing as possible.

Why are Extractions needed?

An extraction is a simple procedure that is incredibly common in most dental offices. There are many reasons for why you may need to have a tooth removed. These reasons include:

  • You need teeth removed for implants or dentures
  • A tooth has become decayed, or is loose because of gum disease
  • A tooth is impacted and cannot come through the gums on its own
  • A tooth has cracked or broken below the gum line

What Makes You A Candidate For Extractions

What makes you a candidate for Extractions?

Our goal is to try to save a tooth before it is completely extracted. However, in some cases, the only option available is to fully remove a tooth. You’ll come in for a consultation before we extract any of your teeth. We will discuss your treatment options with you, so that you understand what is necessary and available to you.

What can you expect when going for Extractions?

Dr. Patel will first administer sedation or anesthetic of your choice so that the extraction is as comfortable as possible. Our goal is to make your time with us relaxing and welcoming. We will then work to remove the tooth using a variety of specialized instruments. If the tooth is impacted, a small incision is made through the gums to gain access to the tooth. After the tooth is removed, sutures may be required to help the gums heal. You’ll be given aftercare instructions that are vital to follow after leaving our office to ensure proper healing.

If you need to have extractions done, and are interested in coming in for a consultation, call our office today, and we’ll work to get you in for an appointment.
